Wildlife of the Month: Great Grey Owl

Great Grey Owls are an amazing sight, although rarely seen. However on occasion you can hear the call of Manitoba’s provincial bird from the other side of the lake at night, reassuring you that you’re truly in the wilderness. What’s even more amazing than hearing one or seeing one perched in a tree? Seeing them take flight. The wingspan of a female Great Grey averages around 142cm while the males average around 140cm.

Check out these once-in-a-lifetime shots of a Great Grey Owl swooping in on a mouse in the snow, captured by local wildlife photographer Anne Klassen.
