Located near Penniac Bay on West Hawk Lake is a quaint cottage-country boutique that has carries lots of great products. Since it shares the same building as Mason Plumbing & Heating, you could even say it has everything including the kitchen sink!
The Mason Jar was originally a store known as Majors Service Centre. After owner Pat Mason passed away in 2005, his wife Bev continued to run the store for a few years before retiring. The store was taken over by their son, Grant, and his wife, Lori, who ran the plumbing business out of the back and kept the front as a small convenience store. They called the store ‘Pat’s Place’ in honour of Pat Mason. In 2012, Lori and her step-daughter, Danielle Mason, opened The Mason Jar in what was once the store’s living quarters.
The Mason Jar offers a variety of women’s clothing and bathing suits that are perfect for summers at the lake. Some brands include Roxy and Billabong and there are even some beautiful summer sun dresses from Bali. The Mason Jar also carries a variety of flips flops, handbags, and jewelry including some by Hilary Druxman.
The store also has garden decor that are perfect for gardens and flower beds at the lake, as well as a variety of cottage decor including stained glass, pottery, wood carvings, and bird houses made by local artists including Walter Keller and Rick Merritt. Other items available at The Mason Jar include candles, greeting cards, Christmas items, leather products by Hides in Hand, kids toys, a candy counter, basic food supplies, fishing equipment and licenses, park passes, fishing bait, a large selection of movie rentals, and even Kleefeld Saunas.The Mason Jar has dedicated an entire room as a used-book library that is free of charge. Bring a book, take a book, or make a small donation to the West Hawk United Church.The Mason Jar also has wifi-cafe and a community-access computer. You can bring your laptop or pick up a book and enjoy a cup of coffee, tea, or a cold drink on one of the two decks.“Even though the gift store is our first love, Danielle and I continue to learn more about the plumbing aspect of the business,” said owner Lori Ziemanski-Mason. “It may seem a strange marriage, a boutique and plumbing shop, but it works.”
