Paddling against the current, climbing up a cliff, running through the woods, or casting for the monster fish – The Whiteshell Provincial Park has endless wilderness adventures that can challenge you in every season. Now Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) is giving all you outdoor adventure-enthusiasts the chance to do what you love while raising money for a good cause.
The Big Wild Challenge is an outdoor-adventure challenge that encourages people to get out and experience nature as a way of showing their support for Manitoba’s beautiful wild spaces, including the Whiteshell Provincial Park, all while raising funds to support the efforts of Canadian Parks and Wilderness Association (CPAWS) to protect our at-risk wilderness.
The goal of the Big Wild Challenge is to get participants to come up with their own outdoors challenge and register it at bigwildchallenge.org, where participants will be given a page to explain their challenge, add a photo, and share their fundraising goals. This page can be shared with friends and family in order to help them reach those goals. See example page here.
The Whiteshell Provincial Park is an ideal place for the Big Wild Challenge as there are so many different outdoors adventures that cottagers, locals, tourists, and campers take part in. Raising funds in aid of preserving Canadian parks (both provincial and national) and wilderness is a great way to help out and show appreciation for beautiful and pristine places such as the Whiteshell.
Here are some stipulations of the Big Wild Challenge:
All proceeds from The Big Wild Challenge will go to CPAWS and proceeds from Manitoba-based challenges will be directed to the Manitoba Chapter of CPAWS. Donors will receive a charitable receipt for their gift. Donations will also go twice as far as MEC will match the first $20,000 raised across the country! Participants will receive prizes from MEC at each of the three fundraising milestones they reach.
– $250 – MEC Big Wild Challenge T-Shirt
– $500 – $25 MEC Gift Card
– $1,000 – $50 MEC Gift Card
Whether the end goal of your challenge is to climb a tall cliff, paddle a certain chain of lakes, or see a certain type of wildlife while camping; the Big Wild Challenge is a great way to get out in the wilderness and help preserve it at the same time.
