Little walk down Memory Lane, anyone?
Many of the original cottages in the Falcon and West Hawk Lake area were built in the 1940s, and are still owned by the members of the original family today.
Here’s a series of photos that may give some of those families a flashback to the good ol’ days at West Hawk Lake, Falcon Lake, Caddy Lake, and Star Lake. If you’re new to the Whiteshell or just enjoy day tripping, check out how things have changed throughout the years!
One thing has stayed the same, though: The Whiteshell Provincial Park is arguably still the most beautiful place in Manitoba.

What a great photo compilation!
Falcon, Star, West Hawk, and Red Rock Lakes were all places I have been fortunate to spend time at as a youngster, and not as much as an adult. The most beautiful places in Manitoba.
My dream one day is to have a small place by the water!
Any chance you know if there is photos of the West Hawk Laundrymat? I wonder what was previously there? I used to go there in the mid 80’s to play the Star Wars arcade game there, I remember it was near the Parks office..
Keep up the great work!
Cheers,
Blake
Hi Blake!
Glad this brought back so many great memories for you! That’s great to hear.
I do not have any photos of the old West Hawk Laundromat… However we may be able to dig some up. The current laundromat is at Crescent Beach Cottages, near the Parks office… Is that the one you’re thinking of?
Thanks again for sharing your comments!

Hi Marney I really enjoyed the “walk down memory lane” with special interest in the photo marked Vacation 1955 taken of Penniac Bay. My family had a cottage on the north side of Penniac Bay at that time and had a vehicle just like that one. The lady looks like my mother. Do you have any record of who the people are in the photo?
Hi Larry,
So glad you enjoyed the photos! I am not sure who took that photo — But I can try and look it up for you! You may be able to find that photo in the book, History & Folklore of the Whiteshell Park South.
I will let you know what I find!
Marney
Hi Larry,
The photograph at Penniac is an actual postcard printed by Lakewood studios out of Kenora Ontario. The company isn’t active anymore but I can contact the owner to find out more information.
