The 13th annual all-species fishing tournament is returning once again to Falcon Lake on Saturday, March 19. This is a great fishing derby the whole family can enjoy… And includes over $40,000 in cash and prizes!

Once again, the biggest fish will swim away with the $10,000 grand prize. Plus — If you happen to land that magical hidden weight number you could be taking home a whopping $50,000 cash!

2015 Falcon Lake Fun Fest

A carnival in a quaint tourist town nestled in the woods of the Canadian Shield!? Let’s be serious, who wouldn’t want to check that out?

Well you can certainly experience that from Aug. 21-23 at the annual Falcon Lake Fun Fest!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year.

A time of the year so many Manitoban anglers anticipate… The opening day of the 2015/2016 fishing season. This Saturday, May 9 marks the first day of open water fishing in the Whiteshell. Whether it’s walleye, black crappie, smallmouth bass, northern pike, or lake trout that you fancy, be sure head out to the Whiteshell Provincial Park this weekend to catch those first fish of the season in one of the beautiful lakes in the park.

Although the past few weeks have been surprisingly mild, you may be waiting for the times where you’ll be scraping your car windows, getting stuck in the deep, heavy snow, or freezing at the bus stop. However, as stated once before on this blog, winter rules in the Whiteshell, and we’re not just saying that. Some even say winter is their favourite season at the lake. Winter is what you make it, and the Whiteshell has endless opportunities for fun winter activities in the most beautiful and scenic place in Manitoba. So instead of staying cooped up inside counting down the days until the snow melts, bundle up and venture out to the winter wilderness wonderland of the Whiteshell, where winter truly rules. Add Your Voice to the South Whiteshell Community Choir!

Chime in with the local community as they start up the new South Whiteshell Community Choir!

The choir will be officially starting up in October, but you can learn more information  at the open house on Tuesday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. at the Christie/Hamilton House, located on Highway 301 at the first driveway on the left east of the Faloma Beach Marina or if you are coming from West Hawk, it’s the second driveway on the right after you pass the Toniata turnoff (PR-301 605). Appetizers, snacks, and beverages are welcome.

The South Whiteshell Trail is a gorgeous hiking trail that winds through the beautiful forest terrain of the Whiteshell from Rennie to the Ontario border. The trail is divided into several different portions that stretch across the South Whiteshell; so whether you’re feeling ambitious and want to bike across the south Whiteshell or just want to take a casual stroll near your campsite, this trail is a perfect way to explore the gorgeous landscape and nature of the Canadian Shield.  On August 31, the South Whiteshell Trail Association will be hosting a grand opening of the newest section of the trail that spans from the southwest corner of Falcon Lake to the Ontario border.
